St. George's Annual Greek Festival 2013

This year's festival will be on Thursday, May 30; Friday, May 31; Saturday, June 1; and Sunday, June 2. We hope you can join us again this year!
As always there will be live music, dancing, imports, authentic Greek dancing and guided church tours. Food is served continuously!

Thursday 5 pm - 10 pm | Friday 11 am - 11 pm
Saturday 11 am - 12 midnight | Sunday 12 noon - 5 pm

Beloved Friends and Supporters of St. George Cathedral,

It is with great joy, friendship, and love that we welcome you to the 2013 Cathedral Greek Festival.

We would like to express our deep gratitude for coming and supporting our Cathedral and in so doing we hope that you have a wonderful time at our festival. At the same time, we hope and pray that your visit with us will bring both our Hellenic heritage and Orthodox Faith closer to you and your friends and family. The Hellenic hospitality is a well known concept in the world that reverberates clearly and distinctly in Hartford area.

Please come, visit and taste our delicious ethnic food, pastries, culinary delights, music, dance and fellowship which the hardworking and dedicated parishioners of the Cathedral offer you today. Also, visit our different food stations and booths and take with you a little taste and smell of Greece. Please, be sure to visit our cathedral and take a moment to offer a prayer for all the blessings that you have received.

Guided Church Tours

Learn more about the Orthodox Christian faith or simply marvel at the glorious symbols of our faith and Byzantine mosaic icons. Guided tours of the sanctuary will be conducted at posted time, or you may view it at your leisure. No food or drink in the Cathedral, please.

Kafenion (Coffee House)

A Greek coffe house serving traditional Greek coffee, American coffee, tea and pastries. The Kafenion is located in the lower-level hall of the church (along with the booths). American coffee will also be served in the upper-level Social Hall near the pastries.

Festival Menu

Everything is available for take out

Spanakopita
A tasty mixture of spinach and feta cheese baked in flaky pastry leaves

Tiropita
A special blend of cheese, eggs and seasonings wrapped in flaky pastry leaves

Dolmades
Little rolls made from grape leaves, stuffed with rice and steamed until tender. This food dates back to the time of Alexander the Great

Greek Salad Plate
Classic salad of crisp lettuce, tomatoes and cucumbers topped with feta cheese, Kalamata olives, and onions, seasoned with a special Greek dressing

Souvlaki
Delicious chucks of pork tenderloin marinated in herbs and spices and grilled to perfection. Served on a bed of rice pilaf, together with a Greek salad and roll

Lamb Shank Kapama
Seasoned select lamb served in a delicious Greek red sauce on a bed of rice pilafm together with a Greek salad and roll

Pastitsio Dinner
Macaroni with seasoned ground beef in a rich cream sauce and topped with grated cheese, together with a Greek Salad and roll

Moussaka Dinner
Sliced eggplant combined with ground meat, spices and tomatoe sauce. Topped with bechamel white sauce and served with a Greek salad and roll

Greek Sampler Platter
Try a few of our most popular dishes-Moussaka, Pastitsio, Souvlaki and Dolmades

Roast Chicken Dinner
Roast Chicken sprinkled with lemon juice and oregano, served with rice pilaf, Greek salad and roll

Gyros (served at gyro booth)
Select seasoned meat, skewered and vertically broiled, designed to ensure lean, juicy slices wrapped in a Greek pita bread, with tomatoes, onions and a cucumber garlic sauce (tzatziki)

Delicious chunks of pork tenderloin marinated in herbs and spices and grilled to perfection served in a Greek pita bread

Beverages

Taverna (Ouzeri Menu)

The taverna is located outside on the lower-level back patio. The Ouzeri will be open evenings only. Live music by our ouzeri musicians Friday and Saturday starting at 5 pm.

Pastries

All the pastries we serve are homemade, sweet and delicious, dripping with nuts, butter and honey! The pastries can also be packaged for you to take home... just ask!

Baklava
This is the aristocrat of Greek pastry. Layor upon layer of buttered filo sheets and ground walnuts topped with syrup

Finikia
Honey-dipped butter cookies with cinnamon and nuts

Koulourakia
Traditional Greek cookie - braided butter cookie

Kourmambiedes
Butter cookies sprinkled with powdered sugar

Kataifi
Shredded wheat filo filled with nuts and syrup

Tsourekia (an entire loaf)
This sweet bread is a speciality in every Greek home on Sundays, religious holidays and festivals

Ravani
Olympian semolina cake drenched in honey syrup

Galaktobouriko
A hellenic treasure - a richly flavored, tasty dessert with thin, "syrup kissed" pastry sheets top and bottom, filled with a creamy baked custard filling, a delectable dessert truly fit for the Gods

Karidopita
A spongy Greek walnut cake cut into diamond shapes and drenched in honey syrup

Loukoumades (served at the gyro booth)
Mouth-watering, feather-like Greek fried dough dipped in honey and topped with nuts

Live Music & Dance

Enjoy listening to great live musical entertainment while you dine, or merely stroll and enjot the Hellenic cultural experience. The musical band, Hellenic Express, will play outdoors on our main stage and in the Ouzeri (rear patio) on:

Thursday: 7 pm - 10 pm
Friday: 12 pm - 2 pm, 7 pm - 11 pm
Saturday: 4 pm - 12 am

In addition, there will be authentic Greek dancing performed by the Olympian Dancers on:

Friday: 6:30 pm & 8:30 pm
Saturday: 6:30 pm & 8:30 pm
