Paraklesis

Paraklesis is a Service which is chanted during the first 15 days of August, excluding the eve of the Transfiguration of Christ and the Dormition of the Virgin Mary (the Theotokos).

The Paraklesis is a prayer in which we pray that the Theotokos will intercede to God "to protect, defend and care for us."

A Paraklesis can also be said to a specific saint but the most popular Paraklesis is the one said to the Theotokos.

During the Paraklesis names of the living are commemorated.
